Risk Groups for Ectopic Pregnancy
Ectopic pregnancy rates have increased steadily from 4.5 per 1000 pregnancies in 1970 to 16.8 per 1000 pregnancies in 1987. All females of reproductive age are at risk of EP.
Higher Risk Groups
• Delayed transit of zygote
Previous-tubal pregnancy (10-fold increase)
Previous tubal surgery
Previous salpingitis — particularly chiamydia
Infertility — shared tubal abnormalities with EP
• Infertility
Ovulation induction
IVF multiple pregnancy contributory factor
Gamete intrafollicular transfer — contributory factors include the hydrostatic forces generated during transfer
Intrauterine contraceptive devices
History of PID
Increasing maternal age and parity.
