Cysts in Fetal Subcutaneous Tissues

·         Klippel- Trenaunay syndrome- Sonography demonstrates peripheral and visceral vascular anomalies. The angiodysplastic lesions in the subcutaneous tissue may appear as cystic areas. Hemihyper trophy may be seen.

·         Subcutaneous lymohangiomas- The cystic spaces are usually less than 5 mm in diameter; hemjhypertrophy/focal hypertrophy does not normally occur.

·         Hemangioma- Hemangiomas may occur as an isolated anomaly in the subcutaneous tissue unassociated with Klippel—Trenaunay_weber syndrome. Color Doppler may demonstrate active flow within the cystic spaces.

·         Lipmatosis-Fatty tumors may infiltrate subcutaneous tissue or muscles, visceral involvement may occur. Rarely focal hypertrophy may occur secondary to lipomatous tumors.

·         Proteus syndrome- Hemi/focal hypertrophy, macrodactyly, subcutaneous cysts and intra-abdominaj masses.

·         Hamartoma-These tumors, which may be cystic or complex, are known to occur in the neck, thorax or abdomen. A case of extensive vascular hamartomatosis involving the whole of the body has been described. The appearances were those of multiple subcutaneous cystic spaces.
